Along the Gravel Road & #BehindtheBlueLine

Most of the time the decision to start a business is calculated based on facts, reason and money. For me, that decision was a little different—it was one inspired by our community’s heartbreak and healing over the past year. 

 

I’m Chelsea Borruano, owner of Gravel Road Marketing. Gravel Road’s goal is to assist like-minded small business owners in developing a creative and effective marketing plan, tailored specifically to their vision, clientele and style. This is my passion; I get to know my clients and their businesses. Their vision becomes my goal because their success is ultimately my success. 

 

My journey, “along the gravel road,” began a little over a year ago when I heard the news of the deadly police shootings and witnessed the suffering of the loved ones left behind. I come from a tight-knit community here in West Baton Rouge and I’ve seen firsthand the power of coming together over a shared cause, so I helped to bring that cause to life by selling Blue Line Louisiana decals and wristbands. I wanted to create the decals to give everyone a chance to visually show their support, to feel connected and to own a tangible reminder of those brave men’s lives and their families’ sacrifice. The proceeds from the sales were donated directly to the families and, in turn, were so generously returned to our community in their honor. Those families’ message for peace and unwavering strength continue to inspire me daily. 

 

Turning this passion into my own business has been both exciting and scary, but I am a firm believer that when you feel so strongly pulled toward something, no amount of fear should stop you! After the amazing and successful event for those officers and putting together the Cajun Nation Fest, a weekend long benefit festival for the flood victims in South Louisiana, I knew it was time to make this dream a reality.  

 

From my communications position at BREC, my involvement with Forum 35, and now with my own company, this industry is so much more than a job, it is a calling and one that I would be crazy to ignore. I am excited to not only build brands and marketing strategies with my clients but to also build relationships in a community that I love so much.
